DelawareCAN Action Fund is pleased to congratulate endorsed candidates Senator Elect Russ Huxtable and Representatives Nnamdi Chukwuocha, Stephanie Bolden and Debra Heffernan on their primary election victories. They were hard-fought victories and we are proud to stand alongside these leaders as we work together to improve education for Delaware youth. 

Generally speaking, the turnout for this primary was low at only 16% compared to 32% in the last cycle. As an organization that is passionate about the crisis facing our children and Delaware schools, we must find more ways to persuade Delaware voters that they can make a difference by engaging in elections. Polling shows Delaware voters are aware of education issues, and align with the need for change and options. 

At DelawareCAN Action Fund, we focus on candidates that share our values and are willing to work together with people of differing viewpoints to find the best path forward for our students and families, and the endorsed candidates embody that spirit. Yesterday’s results unfortunately do not reflect that sentiment, and we are concerned that the polarization we see at the national level may be permeating “the Delaware way.” However, the legislature has also gained some promising young minds that we can look forward to building bridges with. 

Thank you to all volunteers that helped in yesterday’s races and to the candidates that, win or lose, put their lives on hold in an attempt to serve their communities. Now, more than ever, we must drive the importance of a quality public education for every Delaware student. It’s time to turn up the volume and urgency as we look forward to November.
